SEVERE WEATHER ALERT: Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until 3:15 PM.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northeastern Kimball County in the Panhandle of Nebraska, Northwestern Cheyenne County in the Panhandle of Nebraska, Southeastern Banner County in the Panhandle of Nebraska and Southwestern Morrill County in the Panhandle of Nebraska until 3:15 PM.

At 2:14 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located near Brownson or 9 miles west of Sidney, moving north at 15 mph.

Hazards are quarter size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

Source is radar indicated.

Impacts are hail damage to vehicles is expected. expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

This severe thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of Northeastern Kimball, Northwestern Cheyenne, Southeastern Banner and Southwestern Morrill counties.

This includes interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 43 and 53.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:

A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 8:00 PM for Central Nebraska.

The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 172 in effect until 8:00 PM tonight for the following areas:

In Nebraska, this watch includes 8 counties:In Western Nebraska:Banner, Box Butte, Cheyenne, Dawes, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff and Sioux.In Wyoming, this watch includes 2 counties:In Southeast Wyoming:Goshen and Laramie.This includes the cities of Alliance, Bayard, Bridgeport, Chadron, Cheyenne, Gering, Harrisburg, Harrison, Kimball, Scottsbluff, Sidney and Torrington.

SEVERE WEATHER ALERT: Winter Storm Warning in effect until 12 noon today.

Accumulating snow will continue through this afternoon.

Moderate to heavy snow is in progress across much of Southeast Wyoming and the Western Nebraska Panhandle this morning. several reports of 8 to 12 inches of snow have been received across parts of East Central Wyoming and the Northern Panhandle. An additional 4 to 8 inches is possible over the lower elevations today, with upwards of a foot or more over the high mountains. Significant travel impacts will continue across the region with very slick and snow-covered road conditions.A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect until noon today.For Timing, periods of moderate to heavy snow will continue through this morning.Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches.Winds/visibility, north 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Visibility may be significantly reduced in falling and blowing snow.Impacts are extremely dangerous or impossible travel with heavy snow and reduced visibility likely. Roads will be very slick and snow covered.Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.  Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
