BREAKING NEWS THIS EVENING: A LOOK BACK IN TIME (ONE HALFYEAR AGO THIS EVENING): Our community is doing okay today, but is still recovering from the shocking fatal collision south of town that shook up our community a halfyear ago this evening. This was the event that shocked the Java Blend business downtown. The crash occurred on highway 71 south of town exactly one halfyear ago today at about 4:45 p.m. on Monday, January 22nd, 2018 in Kimball County, about 2 miles north of the Colorado state line. Frankie Back and her husband Joshua Hack were both killed in the collision on the icy highway south of town. The Mary Lynch Elementary School helped collect donations a halfyear ago this week and also FirsTier Bank helped with donations as well. Also a memorial was held at the Java Blend downtown almost nearly two weeks after that tragic event occured. They had the memorial on Saturday, February 3rd for 3 hours to honor the memories of the couple. Frankie Back previously worked at the Java Blend downtown and her last day before she lost her life was a halfyear ago today. The Java Blend downtown was shutdown Tuesday, January 23rd all the way through Saturday, January 27th due to this horrific tragedy. They reopened with normal business hours on Monday, January 29th almost one week after this horrific accident. The Nebraska State Patrol said that a sport-utility vehicle driven by 30-year-old Frankie Back went out of control in the high winds and crossed the center line, colliding with an oncoming semitrailer. The patrol dispatcher discovered that Back and her passenger, 33-year-old Joshua Hack, her husband were both killed. The truck driver was identified as 31-year-old Abraham Lamas-Cuevas, of Mexico. The patrol says he wasn't injured. The children they left behind were all moved into the custody one of their relatives from California. The Java Blend downtown now has a few new workers that took over Frankie Back's position. Now, the fund is still open for anybody who would still like to donate to their family.
