Panhandle Public Health District remains diligent in its fight against COVID-19. With a slight uptick of cases, Kimball County reported five cases in the 14 days prior to July 12. Kimball County has a 30% vaccination rate. Kimball's Bad Break
Havoc for a few business owners ensued when a 6-inch water main broke on the 200 block of Chestnut Street. On Sunday, about 11:30 p.m., water was spotted bubbling up through cracks in the asphalt in the middle of Chestnut Street. The cracks and wavy asphalt near the center line on Chestnut Street are results. Early Monday morning, the Water Department realizing the possibility of a water main...

YARD OF THE WEEK
Drew and Sheryl Biesecker at 210 West 9th St. received the Yard of the Week for their stunning array of flowers. Having lived in their house 23 years, the Bieseckers have done all the yard and flowers themselves. The property has been a work in process as they had continually added trees and garden areas in the backyard. The flowers are a heat-resistance type, such as Salvia, Rosemella, Creeping...

THE BUG INVENTOR
Kimball County 4-H'er Giacomo Varra works on his entomology project along with Nathan Rice, UNL Extension educator. First Giacomo "invented" a new insect. He detailed how big it would be and how many would live in a colony – and he imagined that they lived in a rain forest. After he collected bugs and froze them, he studied the specimens to determine what family of insects they...

Seems Like School Is Just Around the Corner
Good morning and nice to see that some wheat harvesting has gotten under way. I feel deeply sorry for the folks who were affected up by Alliance this past week by the the huge hail. Corn fields looked like someone had gone through them with a gigantic hacksaw. Up toward Bayard, the Chimney Rock Museum is now completely reopened. They began renovations in 2119 and had partially re-opened but the...
