City Council Agenda Meeting on Tuesday Evening, June 16th, 2026 ** 2nd Amended **
The City of Kimball council meeting focused primarily on discussing and ultimately deciding to ban the discharge of fireworks within city limits from June 24th to July 5th due to dry conditions and high fire risk. The council approved amendments to Ordinance 635 that prohibit fireworks discharge but allow sales during the permitted state period, with penalties of $500 for violations and $1,000 for violations on red flag days. A separate motion was approved to allow the fire department to conduct a community fireworks display on Farmer's Day, though specific location details were not finalized. The council also approved payment recommendations for wastewater treatment plant and NMCAT invoices, and discussed a $3,500 Kino Fund request from the Kimball Trap Team for 14 competitors attending nationals in Michigan. Additional updates included tree board assessments, ongoing wastewater treatment plant progress, and plans for the 4th of July pool party celebration.
The meeting began with a prayer led by City on behalf of the Kimball Ministerial Association, Cornerstone Community Church, and First English, followed by a roll call to confirm a quorum. The council approved the consent agenda items, including minutes with a correction to the next meeting date, and then addressed two main agenda items regarding wastewater treatment plant payments. The first item involved Hackel Construction and Pneumatic, with a motion to approve payment of $84,551.03, and the second item concerned NMCAT's final payment request of $198,753.48, which was also approved.

City Council Agenda Regular Meeting on Tuesday Evening, June 2nd, 2026
The City Council meeting focused on rezoning applications and local emergency operations planning. The council approved an ordinance to rezone property at 235 Kearney Street from half C2 general commercial and half R2 medium to high density residential to all R2 medium to high density residential. They also discussed and approved the 2026 Kimball Local Emergency Operations Plan with a modification to locate the Emergency Operations Center at the transit center instead of the fire hall. The council reviewed LB840 inspection plans and housing requirements, deciding to keep residential components in the plan while noting the need for clear public explanation during the upcoming public hearing. City staff provided updates on various projects including Frontier Finds weekend events, pool operations, lights at the city park, and plans to paint the underpass with student involvement.

The City Council meeting began with a full quorum present. The meeting followed the required Open Meetings Act procedures and started with a roll call. The council moved to approve the minutes from a previous meeting, with a motion made, seconded, and approved through voting.
