Rest Of Today: Partly cloudy. Chance of rain showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs 55 to 60. North winds 10 mph shifting to the east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.

Tonight: Rain showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening, then rain showers possibly mixed with freezing rain and snow showers after midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Little or no snow accumulation. Lows around 25. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

Thursday: Snow showers possibly mixed with rain showers and freezing rain in the morning, then snow showers in the afternoon. Patchy fog in the morning. Blowing snow in the afternoon. Windy. Much colder. Snow may be heavy at times in the afternoon. Snow accumulation of 6 to 8 inches. Ice accumulation of less than one quarter of an inch. Highs around 35. Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph shifting to the north 30 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 50 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

Thursday Night: Areas of blowing snow in the evening. Cloudy with snow showers likely. Colder. Lows 5 to 10. North winds 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 40 mph in the evening. Chance of snow 50 percent. Wind chill readings 5 below to 5 above zero.

Winter Weather Advisory and Blizzard Warning for Kimball and Kimball County Nebraska:

URGENT WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE:

MAJOR WINTER STORM TO BRING WIDESPREAD SNOW, WIND AND TRAVEL IMPACTS TO SOUTHEAST WYOMING AND NEBRASKA PANHANDLE BEGINNING THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM TONIGHT TO 10AM THURSDAY MORNING.

BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THURSDAY MORNING TO 6 AM FRIDAY.

* WHAT: For the Blizzard Warning, blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE: Entire western Nebraska Panhandle including Harrison, Chadron, Alliance, Scottsbluff, Kimball and Sidney and the southeast Wyoming I-25 corridor and east including Cheyenne, Wheatland, Douglas and Lusk.

* WHEN: For the Blizzard Warning, from 10 AM Thursday Morning to 6 AM Friday. For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 9 PM Wednesday Night to 10 AM Thursday Morning.

* IMPACTS: Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Conditions will be hazardous to livestock and newborn calves. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Due to expected high snowfall amounts on Wednesday, March 18 thru Friday, March 20, the City of Kimball is declaring a Snow Emergency. We are asking citizens to not leave parked vehicles Overnight on Thursday, March 19 so the street department can clean those streets on our Emergeney Snow Routes.

The designated Emergency Snow Routes are:

1) Chestnut Street from 1st Street to 4th Street

2) 2nd Street from Howard Street to Oak Street.

Signs are posted on those routes.

Due to forecasted weather the school will be doing double meals today and be open again on Friday.
