WEATHER ALERT: Special Weather Statement


Strong Thunderstorms will impact Western Cheyenne, Kimball, Southwestern Morrill and Eastern Banner clCounties through 7:30pm.

At 6:34PM, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles southeast of Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area to near Pawnee Buttes. Movement was east at 35 mph.

Hazards are wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and half inch hail.

Impacts are gusty winds that could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.

Locations impacted include Sidney, Kimball, Potter, Dalton, Dix, Gurley, Brownson, Kimball Municipal Airport, Oliver Reservoir, Courthouse and Jail Rock, Redington, Lorenzo, Oliver Reservoir Campground, Kimball County Fairgrounds, Wrights Gap, and Cheyenne County Fairgrounds.

This includes Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 11 and 56.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.

Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
