A major winter storm may impact the area from Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning with widespread moderate to heavy snow and strong winds that may cause near-blizzard conditions. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Here's the Forecast:

Tonight: A chance of rain before 8pm, then a chance of rain and snow between 8pm and 11pm, then a chance of snow after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west after midnight.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of rain after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Rain before 4am, then rain and snow. Low around 24. Blustery, with an east wind 15 to 25 mph becoming north northeast after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Thursday: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 8am. The snow could be heavy at times. Widespread blowing snow, mainly between 9am and 2pm. High near 32. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Thursday Night: Snow, mainly before midnight. Areas of blowing snow before 11pm. Low around 4. Blustery. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 23.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 10.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.

Next Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 42.

Next Sunday Night: A slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.

URGENT WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE:

MAJOR WINTER STORM TO BRING WIDESPREAD SNOW AND TRAVEL IMPACTS TO SOUTHEAST WYOMING AND NEBRASKA PANHANDLE BEGINNING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT.

* WHAT: Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Combination of heavy snow and strong north to northeast winds may create blizzard conditions, especially Thursday morning through Thursday evening.

* WHERE: Entire western Nebraska Panhandle including Harrison, Chadron, Alliance, Scottsbluff, Kimball and Sidney.

* WHEN: From late Wednesday night through late Thursday night.

* IMPACTS: Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
